Junagarh Fort
Built on the flat rather than on a hill, and never taken. The courtyards and painted halls inside are the reason most people stop in Bikaner at all.

Merchant houses cut from Dulmera red sandstone, built for the Rampuria family from the fifteenth century onward. Best seen early, before the lane fills up.

Laxminath Temple
Raised by Rao Lunakaran and given to Vishnu and Lakshmi. The doorway carries silver work, and the walls inside keep their old paintings and sculpture.

Karni Mata, Deshnok
The rat temple, and one of the busiest shrines in Rajasthan. Shoes come off at the gate, and the floor is shared with the residents.

Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary
A lake inside thick forest, with the old Bikaner hunting lodge on its bank. Blackbuck, blue bull, desert fox, wild boar and a great deal of wildfowl.

A pilgrimage town on a sacred lake, given to Kapil Muni. The fair each Kartik, in October or November, brings bathers to the ghats and camel traders to the ground beside them.
